Where are you from?

I am from Indianapolis, the southeast side, born and raised.

Tell us a little bit about your educational background.

I went to Purdue University and studied visual communication design.

Why did you want to become a fellow at Pattern?

I wanted something that would push me out of my routine and help me grow. This opportunity was the right mix of challenge and creativity, and I knew it would help me build connections with people who are just as passionate as I am.

What is your proudest moment, and can you describe it for us?

One that stands out recently was working with a small committee at Purdue. We organized a gallery reception, and I had the chance to speak in front of a big crowd. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it was so rewarding to see everything come together.

Do you have any favorite hidden gems in Indy?

I love the Woodruff Place Flea Market. It’s held in this beautiful historic neighborhood on the east side, where every house basically does a garage sale. It’s full of character—fountains, medians, old trees. It’s such a vibe, especially in early June when the market happens.

How do you look for motivation or inspiration?

Obviously, Pinterest is a classic, but I often try to look at what sparks my interest in daily life. For instance, I once did a poster project on social issues and explored how expensive college is—something that still deeply affects me. Coming across new music also resets me.

Do you have a creative philosophy, and what is it?

I try to remind myself to save time for my own passion projects and creative endeavors—the things I want to do personally. Using your creativity all the time can be draining, so it’s about finding that balance. I think it’s important not to get too burnt out and to do things with intention. So I try to be mindful and make time for things that fulfill me creatively.

What is something that people wouldn’t guess about you?

This is more something that I wouldn’t have guessed about myself. A few years ago, I was set on leaving Indiana. But recently, I’ve surprised myself—and probably my friends and family—by wanting to stay. I’ve realized I want to help cultivate what I want right here in Indy and work toward making this city a better place to live. It feels rewarding to watch the culture grow.

Hypothetical: Money doesn’t exist, and you own a business. What would that business entail?

I’d create a cozy, plant-filled space that’s a coffee shop by day and a cocktail bar by night. I would want to be really involved, like behind the counter making the drinks, creating relationships with the regulars, and meeting people from the area. It’d have books, games, and little events—basically a third space where people could come together, meet, relax, or just be. I think we need more of that.
