Where are you from?
Originally I am from Krum, Texas. The town has a population of, like, 5,000 people. I knew very early on that after I graduated I wanted to get out. I would also say I am from Austin, Texas, since I went to college there.
Tell us a little bit about your educational background.
I studied design at the University of Texas. It was a multidisciplinary study where they taught everything from graphic design to industry design. One of my favorite classes was called eco-design, and that was focused on the natural state of the world and used different things like patterns of migration for design.
What is a piece of media that you would recommend?
I would recommend the artist Natalia Lafourcade. She is Mexican born and raised; her music is mixing jazz and folk with a focus on Mexican culture and I think it is very beautiful.
Why did you want to become a fellow at Pattern?
I worked at a nonprofit before and I love how Pattern is mission-based and passionate about what they do. I also wanted to get a fresh perspective on a new city I have never been to before.
What’s your favorite spot in Indy, and why do you like to go there?
I haven't explored much around Indy since I am not from here, but I would love to find some cool parks and nature spots to visit.
What is one album that you consider perfect?
Puñito De Yocahú by Vicente García. The music is very beautiful and infused with Colombian culture; it sounds like pure joy and happiness. A good mix of slow and heavy songs as well.
If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
Honestly, Jesus. I just have so many questions and genuinely, from what I have learned, he would be the most perfect presence to be around.
Do you have a hidden talent you would like to share?
I think I am a good conversationalist and navigate awkward situations with ease.
What are your career aspirations after Pattern?
I really want to see if my future leads me down a fashion route, or I would love to work at a museum someday. I think my position at Pattern will really help me figure that out.
