Where are you from?
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Grew up in Franklin Township and I’ve been living downtown for the past five years.
Tell us a little bit about your educational background.
“I just graduated from the University of Indianapolis. I majored in communications studies, got a certificate in public relations, and did gender and sexuality studies.”
What’s something you’re proud of?
I started a women’s writing group called Writings from Her Corner and have been doing that for almost two years now at Dream Palace every Wednesday, and we’ve built a community through that.
Why did you want to become a fellow at Pattern?
I’ve had my eye on Pattern. I think organizations that promote arts and culture are important because there’s so many different aspects to Indy, and the arts & culture industry is a big part of what makes Indy “Indy.” I love the creativity of Pattern.
What’s your favorite spot in Indy, and why do you like to go there?
First I want to say Dream Palace Books and Coffee because they have such a curated collection and so many events that I think are really needed. On the old northside, I really love walking around the neighborhoods. And the Stutz building.
If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
Taylor Swift. Just because I've grown up listening to her. I just really admire her ability to express herself creatively in so many different ways, so many honest ways. I admire the way she’s built her fan base. No matter what mood I’m going through, I'm like “I have to have a Taylor song.”
What are your career aspirations after Pattern?
I just want to work at an organization that makes a difference in my community. You connect people and have those shared values of community support, enrichment, creativity.
What are you most excited about in your journey through the Pattern fellowship program?
I’m really looking forward to seeing what else is out there. The more you explore in Indy, the more you find. It’s just like opening a door after door after door. I’m excited to discover things I haven’t been exposed to, to meet new people. I’m really excited to get back into working in the nonprofit world.
