Has AI made creative thinkers more essential than ever? 🤖

plus some events for International Women's Day tomorrow!

It’s March already! This month snuck up on me—I hope you all were more prepared. International Women’s Day is tomorrow, the first day of spring is in less than two weeks, and our 25th volume release is next month! Things are picking up quickly, but we’re excited to go on this ride with you.

On another note, you may remember me (Samantha, Strat Comms Fellow here at PATTERN) telling you that I’m new to Indianapolis. The great thing about that is I get to keep discovering the cool opportunities that exist in Indy! My most recent discovery: The Indiana State Museum is one of only 12 locations worldwide showing Dune: Part Two in 70mm IMAX! If you’ve never seen a movie in 70mm IMAX, I recommend trying it out—even if you’re not a film buff. It really is an experience like no other!

With the skyrocketing growth of AI over the past few years, it can be hard for artists to know where we fit in. Is AI changing the way we create for the better? Or is it a limiting force that compromises our future job prospects?

As the dust settles on AI, it might be that creative thinking is more essential than ever. Lets take a look over the pond and check out a recent Creative Boom article on just that.

Creative Boom, a leading creative industry magazine in the UK, took a look at UUK’s Jobs of the Future report, and found that “analytical and creative thinking are the most important skills needed by employers globally.” Creative Boom’s conclusion: AI takes away the mundane repetitive work of creativity, but can’t even begin to match genuine creative thinking.

A question our team here at PATTERN is looking to solve: how can we connect and prepare creatives for these opportunities?

Tomorrow is International Women’s Day—here are some events tomorrow that you won’t want to miss!

EmpowHer: The Art of Being a Woman is having its Opening Reception, hosted by PATTERN, on March 8th. The exhibition features a collection of works by fourteen female artists that illuminates the many facets of womanhood and convey messages of love, strength, and solidarity. The opening reception will feature live music and catering. The event is invite only, but we’re extending an invitation to all of you subscribed to our newsletter! If you are interested in attending, please send an email to Salma Taman at [email protected].

The Maven Space in downtown Indy is having a day of free coworking! Stop by any time between 9am and 4pm to enjoy the free coworking time and enjoy the following reception at 4pm.

The Indiana Commission for Women is hosting a free speaker series from 8am-2pm at the Indiana Government Center South Auditorium (but can also be accessed virtually). There are also free professional headshots being offered during certain time slots.

What’s Happening At PATTERN

It's been another whirlwind month at PATTERN HQ--but honestly, when isn't it? Here’s the scoop:

  • Our fantastic office manager and intern guru, Kate Grimm, surprised our interns with a field trip to the Aurora Photo Studio. They explored two eye-opening exhibitions, The Quarry Project and Beholden, and even got hands-on experience developing their own large-format, vintage camera shots. Talk about a blast from the past!

  • In bittersweet news, we're bidding farewell to Kate this week. It's tough to see her go, but we're excited for her next adventure at the HI-FI, where she'll be wrangling all sorts of exciting projects. Best of luck, Kate!

  • On the collaboration front, we've teamed up with IU Innovates to showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of IU through our trifecta of skills: photography, storytelling, and top-notch design. Plus, our visits to the Bloomington campus have been a treat – those historic buildings and tasty local bites are the cherry on top. (Have digital or print storytelling needs? PATTERN can help! Email [email protected])

  • Our 5-year strategic plan is a wrap, and packed with ambitious goals to propel Indiana’s creative pros into a bright future. We can't wait to share what's in store!

  • And we’re still growing! Job details are here. Take a look, and if you're feeling generous, tell a friend!
