What Are You Doing All-Star Weekend? 🏀

plus our theory on the secret to Indy's economic growth!

Remember all that sunshine we had last weekend . . . that was the best. Second best is that PATTERN Vol.25 is in the works! This girl is all about basketball. We’re talking teams, sportscasting, courts, jerseys, you know the drill—and we need your help!

We’re seeking Open Letters from you to literally anything related to basketball. Managing Editor Jenny Walton is here to help with examples:

  • The giant wooden goose egg that your seventh-grade team gifted you because you didn’t score a single point all season.

  • Those church bleachers you sat on during your sister’s practices.

  • That one half-court shot you nailed in front of a couple of guys at a house party in high school.

  • The drive back to Indy with your sports-loving boyfriend after IU got creamed by IU Fort Wayne . . .

More details and the submission form are right here. Deadline is February 22!

You know as well as anyone else that Indy is full of hard-working people committed to a better future. But how can we make our economic growth reflect that passion—and why does that economic growth matter? We’ve got you covered!

From time to time, our Executive Director Polina Osherov shares thoughts on her experiences in the Pollinator, a series she posts on LinkedIn. Her most recent musings: the secret to meaningful economic growth for Indianapolis might just be going all-in on the creative economy.

But don’t take our word for it! Read it for yourself.

Past PATTERN intern and heart of our hearts, Julian Jamaal Jones has abstract tapestries on the walls at the Tube Factory right now. Do yourself a favor and go check out these beauties.

And back to NBA All-Star Weekend, some of you might think you’re too cool for this sort of community excitement, and we think that’s nonsense! Take IndyGo up on that free bus ride and come downtown to people-watch, to see the art installations, to shop the pop-ups.

We’ll be hitting the NBA Crossover experience at the Convention Center on Friday and then letting the energy take us where it will. But you should come up with your own plan! Here are a few lists you might find helpful in your planning:

What’s Happening At PATTERN

  • We already mentioned we’re in the throes of Vol. 25 and all things NBA All-Star . . . and we’re learning so much about this ultimate Hoosier sport.

  • We’re in the home stretch of our strategic plan with Cape Fletcher & Associates. Spoiler: We’re doubling down on making Indiana an ever-better place to make a living as a creative entrepreneur.
